Have you ever found yourself trying to perform an impossible juggling act between your work-life and home-life?
Ever spent your entire work day at the “top of your game,” only to be too tired to play games with your children when you get home?
Have you ever wondered how the person that seems to have it all is able to get work done, yet still have time for his family?
As a father of three wonderful children, I have also struggled with these same questions over the years. Continue reading “Work-Life Balance-7 Tips For The Productive Father”
Last week, at the end of a long day, my 12-year-old son turned to me and said the words that every father longs to hear:
“Dad, thanks; this was the greatest day of my life.”
You could only imagine the emotions I felt that day; feelings that could only be described as overwhelming happiness, validation, joy and love. All parents know that you may go a lifetime and not hear those words, so to hear them come from my son’s lips was a special moment. We had just left the NBA Draft in Brooklyn NY on the way back home to Queens and had a great night all around. Fatherhood! So I’m working on 3 hours of sleep, during which I was restless 8x. Well at least that’s what my Fitbit is telling me.
My 3 1/2 year old, who decided to sleep in the bed with me last night, woke up in the middle of the night and started running in place on the bed. Only because of years of parenting under my belt did I recognize this form of non verbal communication as an opportunity to ask “do you need to go to the bathroom?” He quietly answered yes, I patiently escorted him to the bathroom and we returned to bed. Whether you are an Entrepreneur, CEO, Manager or line staff we all run into the issue of feeling like we don’t have “enough time.”
Not enough time to complete our work, spend time with our children or take part in the things we love.
I often work with people who tell me that there is not enough time in the day to complete the tasks at their jobs, home or both. This lack of perceived productivity will begin to cause anxiety and negatively affect the quality of our day. When you begin to feel like your not making any progress in your professional or personal life, it can be debilitating.
I’ve learned that the key to preventing this from happening is by STOPPING! Yes, stopping! Continue reading “STOP! It Can Be The Most Productive Thing You Do”
It’s not easy asking for help, so I’ve learned not to wait until someone asks, help anyway.
I’ve had experiences with the people I mentor and coach who always ask how I’m so positive and willing to help people. My answer is usually “because I owe.” I owe for the people who took the time and energy with me to help get me to where I am.
I owe for those who weren’t given the opportunities that I was through basketball and other means. I owe because if I want to see the change in the world, I must be a living example of that change. But what they don’t realize is that by giving, I get so much in return. People want to be a part of something they believe in, and the network/community that has developed as a result of helping others has been priceless. I can reach out to people all over the world for help when I need it which to me signifies true wealth and abundance. Continue reading “5 Reasons Why Helping Others Is Your Greatest Wealth”
Over the past few weeks, I have been fortunate enough to get invited as a VIP guest to a couple of TEDx events in New York. It was an honor as well as a humbling experience to be a part of these great events.
I also recently teamed up with a couple of friends and attended a TEDxAmherst event with the dual purpose of networking and enjoying the day with them. For all of you who are unfamiliar with TED or TEDx, you can see what it’s about on TED.com. A quick heads up, TED is not a big giant talking Teddy Bear or a person. It is actually a global set of conferences focused on spreading innovative “ideas worth spreading.” TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. It is impossible to define fatherhood in one picture, definition or example. You have various degrees of father involvement and engagement. You have some fathers who live with their children and some who live outside the home. Some fathers are married, some divorced and some who have never been married to the child’s mother. In addition, you may have step fathers, adoptive fathers, and foster fathers; all of whom play a role in child rearing. With the diversity of the fatherhood role it is important to look at the ways that father engagement plays in positive outcomes in children.

First off, let me say I was never the “lets do a cleanse type of guy!” While over the past few years I’ve becoming increasingly aware of taking care of this vehicle called a body, I need to let you know where I’m coming from. Cleansing wasn’t something that was discussed too much in the circles I ran in,
